Welcome to Riad Maizie in the heart of the Marrakech Medina

Riad Maizie is a lovingly restored Riad in the heart of the Marrakech Medina - It is 5 minutes walk from the souks and 10 minutes walk from Djemaa el Fna

If you are taking a trip to Marrakech, Riad Maizie is a tranquil spot for you to stay whilst exploring the hustle, bustle and beauty of Marrakech.

Things to do

We can arrange trips to the Ourika Valley, Essouira, and local markets. The more adventurous can take a day or two and go to the desert, or skiing in winter.

There are quite a few museums, as every guide book can tell you, you can swim in close by hotel for the price of a salad, or you can take a caleche and visit Yves St Laurent’s magical garden.

For the discerning, Marrakech has the best and most diverting shopping, but you do have to sift the gems from the dross. For those of you with an interest in Moroccan cuisine we can arrange cookery lessons with the girls.

The way to Riad Maizie

Riad Maizie is a twelve-minute walk from Djemaa el Fna, and about five minutes from the nearest taxi point, Ben Saleh Square.

From the main square you can amble to Riad Maizie via the jewellery, magic, metal and leatherwork souks or you can walk the more straightforward route along Derb Dabachi.

The Courtyard

Thread your way along the Derb to Riad Maizie, open the heavy front door, and you will glimpse a green oasis, birds chatter in the towering banana trees, bougainvillea scrambles up the walls, four orange trees scent the air from time to time with neroli, and two fountains cool the air. There are tables and chairs for drinking mint tea out of the heat of the mid-day sun, and at night there are the stars above and candles flickering beneath the trees.

The Roof

Climb to the top of the stairs at either end of the house and you will find yourself on the roof terrace. The large roof terrace is shaded with a huge Berber tent, furnished with sofas and parasols, and has a large round zillig fessi dining table for dinner parties.

A surprising number of plants thrive up here, and from the walls you can see the distant snow covered peaks of the Atlas Mountains. The perfect place to idle away a balmy evening with a good book and a gin and tonic or three.
