Riad Maizie is a lovingly restored Riad available to rent in the heart of the Marrakech Medina - It is 5 minutes walk from the souks and 10 minutes walk from Djemaa el Fna

If you are taking a trip to Marrakech, Riad Maizie is a tranquil spot for you to stay whilst exploring the hustle, bustle and beauty of Marrakech.

Welcome to a little piece of paradise. Riad Maizie is a Riad in the very oldest part of this fortified city, begun by Abu-Bakr Ibn-Umar in May 1070. The local mosque is the original one, around which everything else followed. Morocco was once ‘The Kingdom of Marrakech’, and the Medina of Marrakech, ‘The Red City’, is now a UNESCO heritage site. It is also the largest market in Morocco. The thing is, Marrakech is a secret city whose interesting mysteries and contradictions take place behind windowless exterior walls and heavy doors. A plain unprepossessing entrance may conceal a palace within.

Relax and Create: Yoga and Painting at Riad Maizie

The Park in Jmaa Fna

Now that I’m a fully qualified yoga instructor I thought it would be great fun to do a couple of week’s teaching at Riad Maizie. Then Dan got very excited about the idea and said he would love to teach painting. He has always been a brilliant teacher – Alistair, a vet whom he taught for a bit in Spain was inspired by the experience to do an Art History degree.

We are offering two separate weeks: Monday 19th April to Sunday 25th April 2010, and again Monday 26th to Sunday 2nd May, based around one hour of yoga each morning, three hours of painting each afternoon, followed by another hour of yoga in the evening.

Painting costs £300 and yoga £200 per person for the week over and above the room rate - if you want to do both, it will cost £400

We will provide breakfast and lunch. Amal and Nezha will give a Moroccan cookery demo too for which we'll give you a recipe sheet. For yoga I’ll provide sticky mats, straps, blocks, tuition and music. I’ll give you a sheet of position printouts and a cd so that you can continue your practice after the week. Dan will provide each person with materials and a canvas so that you will have a finished painting to take home.

Check out Ryanair from Luton, East Midlands or Bristol; Easyjet from Manchester or Gatwick for cheap flights.
