The Riad is at the end of Derb al Qadi, the street of the Judge, which is a mixture of rich and poor, local and exotic. There are families who go back generations, and French, Belgian, British and American newcomers who have fallen under the spell of this extraordinary city, and succumbed to the magical contrast between the bustle of Djemaa el Fna and the extraordinary tranquillity of the riads. Once safely ensconced in the courtyard of the riad - unless there is a wedding in the vicinity, when music will drift along the derbs – the only sound you are likely to hear will be the occasional and incongruous cockerel crowing, birdsong, and the soothing plash of fountains.
